I essentially stayed for 2 days and explored the entire area.

Highlights include:

  • Parade & Floats
  • Taiko
  • Food Bazaar
  • Anime Cosplay & Talent Show
  • Authentic Tea Ceremony
  • Bonsai Exhibit
  • Cool malls – lots of anime/hobby stores and even a gothic lolita clothing store.
  • Japanese-inpsired architecture (Christian & Buddhist churches look alike)

The parade concluded with the carrying and shaking of the portable shrines, one by children, the other by teens and another by adults.

Overall I was amazed, and sadly, LA’s Little Tokyo is not even 20% as great at Japantown’s malls. I hope that someday Little Tokyo could have lots more to offer.

  1. That was a fun read – I’ve got to get myself over to SF some time soon.. I live in rainy England 😦 You’ve got a really fluid and engaging writing style too, really made me want to keep reading.

Actually, I was wondering whether you’d be interested in promoting your writing through a social media site called Blurtit.com that I’m launching?

We’re a Q&A platform, and I’m really keen to get some talented bloggers on board before we open up the site to the rest of the world.

We get 12.5 million page views a month, so it could be a good opportunity to spread your message and show off your awesome writing style.

Email me at kass@blurtit.com if you’re interested, and I can send out an invite code to let you have a snoop about the site!
